Brilliant White

I guess it is because the flowers on a Yucca plant are so vivid white that they stand out.
Make no mistake, in the UK the cactus-like plant is grown mainly for ornamental purposes, and always provides a striking picture. I spotted this magnificent one today close by the local headquarters of the Red Cross, making a fine display.
They once said the yucca would flower only every seven years, but if cared for properly once it flowers it should do so every year, although it may take some years to flower first time. That's because the striking bell-like flowers only appear on mature plants.
We had one in the garden of a previous house we lived in, and It set off our front open plan garden perfectly. So much so that it saddened us to have to leave it when we moved on.
Today's yucca had blooms on two stems and it is because the stems, or flowering stalks are fairly tall that they stand out.
The plant is originally native of North America and there are reckoned to be as many as 49 different species.
I'm no horticultural expert but I'd be happy to have a specimen like this in my garden again!
