Across the centuries
I saw this wooden dog looking at me.... it was not by Rembrandt or Vermeer or Frans Hals but was made by a 17th century contemporary of theirs who clearly knew and loved dogs, or one particular dog, and it reminded me of my own dog Casey.
The Rijksmuseum is a fantastic art gallery full of the major works of art, mostly instantly recognizable and easily located on the internet if you wish. The wooden dog might be described as a minor art work but, although it died three hundred of years ago, the carving has such vitality that it seems to live still.
We happened upon a Gay Pride procession coming along the street on the way back, a few pictures starting here.
