Quercus Suber
This cork oak in Monchique, Portugal, was last stripped of its bark in 2006. Cork oak trees are harvested every 10 years so it will be recovered enough for another stripping in 2016. A tree can be harvested up to a dozen times in its lifetime.
The stripped bit is dark up to the branches that still have their distinctive cork covering.
