Western Driving - Severn Valley Railway
This is my train. I drove the second half of thr journey from bridgenorth to Kidderminster and it was fantastic!
A childhood dream come true. I had no idea how much driving a train is about gradients and speed limits. You have to think a way ahead with both the power and the brakes. Luckily the driver and second man were fantastic and mad it easy for me. Power goes from off to notch 1 to notch nine. The highlight was going into a tunnel which is up hill going from half power to full power. Windows open, no lights on the front of the train or on the cab and the tunnel had a curve so it just went pitch black and incredibly noisy! Great day and great to share it with storksrock, suttonlady nighthawk, rednalrager and fujinovice who were all traveling in the train but we're kind enough not to complain about my driving.
