I Looked Out From The Bathroom Window

I looked out from the bathroom window, which was quite steamed up, and thought I saw a song thrush in a tree. Now I see it blown up in the frame it is clearly a juvenile blackbird.

Elvis Presley - Blue Moon (recorded 14 August 1954)
According to the papers there was a "rare astronomical event" happening on this day, a blue moon. These happen a couple of times every year so are not especially rare and are not an astronomical event at all but rather a calendrical one. A lunar month is up to three days shorter than a calendar month so when there is a full moon in the first couple of days of a month there can be another before the month is out, and this is called a Blue Moon.
