Dangerous plant

I've no idea what this plant is called (we inherited it from the previous owners/gardeners).

All I do know is in a couple of weeks time the seed pods will explode literally firing the seeds across the patio.
The 1st year we were here it took us a while to work out what kept hitting us :-)
