It's Behind You!

Today we were docked in Salerno, presumably because it was cheaper than docking in Naples where all the action is!

We started our day with a visit to Herculaneum, a city that was destroyed by the same eruption of Vesuvius that wiped out Pompeii. While the ruins of Pompeii cover a larger area, those at Herculaneum are far better preserved.

Next stop was a climb up Mount Vesuvius and a hike around the crater. It's now only a third the height it was in it's heyday, but still pretty spectacular and, in places, still steaming!

We worked up an appetite for lunch and stopped in a fantastic seafood restaurant in Ravello with a beautiful view of the Bay of Naples. Ate lovely grouper with salad and (ahem) a plate of lovely chips (fries) made from real potatoes. All the food here is real, not fake ;)
