Urupa.

Urupa is the Maori word for a cemetery. In this area there was a large Maori population and on their ancestral land there are many of these urupas, often in the middle of a piece of rural land as pictured. On a grey day the streak white tombstones stood out in this tidy urupa. A restful spot as it does have a distant view of a part of the harbour.
