What a wonderful day we had!  One of my former students, Sheila, came for a visit.  I picked her up at the ferry and we had lunch then wandered around Ganges, non-stop talking the whole way.  We headed to our place and were both greeted with big hugs from G.  The non-stop talking continued for the rest of the afternoon, over dinner, and on the trip back to drop her off at the ferry.
It's been such a privilege to be part of the journey of people like Sheila.  She's a perfect example of a person who had a dream of being a teacher and finally had a chance to be admitted to a teacher education program as a mature student, excelled in her studies, and has gone on to complete a masters program and is thinking of starting a doctorate some day.   She's a fine educator and a fine person, as passionate about education and making a difference in the lives of students as we are.  She exemplifies the Indigenous students I worked with for so many years.
G and I sat on our porch in the dark after Sheila left and reminisced about the many amazing students we worked with, and G said that he loved the students I worked with as much as I did.  I think this photo of him and Sheila demonstrates that.  He engaged with the students, came to as many of the events and pot luck dinners as he could, and shared so many of the good times.  It's been special to share these times with him.  The students loved him as well and were always so happy when he visited.  We're so lucky to have had such rewarding experiences in our careers.
Extra: Sheila and me  :)  Thanks for taking this, G!
