Getting the sparkle back

Escher maze

I met I today at the Dean Gallery to see the Maurits Escher exhibition - definitely recommended, and be prepared to queue to see some of the pictures. Before going to the exhibition I have to say that I didn't know his name, but I did know some of his work,. He is best known for his mathematical prints of impossible buildings, such as The Waterfall and The Belvedere. We liked the fact that he was embraced by the hippy movement with its love of psychedelic art, rather against his will; he declined to design a cover for a Rolling Stones album as he had never heard of Mick Jagger.

Before we went into the exhibition we had a go in the maze outside and (somewhat disappointingly) we both made it to the centre of the maze and back out again without have to use the emergency exits or climbing over the wall.

There's more about the exhibition here; and here is a link to the Escher Foundation website.
