Exhibit C

Week 3 of notes to self on the exhibits in the Priory museum.

This picture shows the Priory as it would have looked shortly before the Dissolution of the monasteries.  The buildings were sited on the sunny and sheltered south side of the church and would have included a dormitory, cloister, a refectory, library, infirmary and bathing room.  Because the canons worked with the local community there would have probably also been outbuildings like barns, a forge, a hospice and a brewery.  The mill at Christchurch Quay was part of the monastery.

The exit door to the museum hasn't been repaired yet, so everyone has to go up and down the entrance stairway - which means shouting before you take to the stairs, because there are no passing places if you meet someone coming the other way.
