No, it's actually the edge of a web layer coating several trees on Jesus Green in Cambridge due to an invasion of... caterpillars!
Yes, there are literally hundreds of them and the trees are fairly well wrapped up in the webs - from a distance they all looked like they were covered in crepe paper but it's actually the webs from the caterpillars - if you live locally enough to go and have a look they are fascinating.
I did have a potential Blip of a cluster of caterpillars, but that's already been done (albeit not in Cambridge) rather nicely by Kirsty of ClickSnapSmile and is worth checking out. (largification!)
Oh, and you all be reassured to know that the invasion didn't stop rounders (we hadn't played for three weeks now), we had a cracking game against BioChrom (affectionately known as the ginger kids as it's a parent/kids team and the juniors are mostly of the ginger variety!) and I set myself a new personal best of 7.5 rounders in an innings (and we scraped a win by 2!)
