Temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounion, Greece
We were in Piraeus today, the hopping off point for Athens. We've been there twice already and were looking for something different this time round, and found this tour that someone on cruisecritic was organising. It was basically a long bus ride through some lovely countryside and beaches, a short stop at the temple perched high on a hill, and then lunch at a restaurant, (any restaurant, that was open by 11am on a Sunday, LOL, we weren't picky!!!).
We disembarked early, found our driver and were entertained by 2 van drivers having a punch up. Fists were flying and there was a lot of yelling, Not sure whether one had pinched the other's customers or what. It must be a regular occurrence because the police were watching rather than intervening. Unfortunately the last couple we were touring with showed up, so we had to leave before the argument was resolved!
It was a long drive to Cape Sounion, but the Temple of Poseidon looked quite impressive perched on top. We walked around it and that was it! Back on the bus!
We stopped off on the way back for lunch, (taramasalata, moussaka, chicken souvlaki and very sharp house wine!), and were back on the ship chilling by 1pm.
All in all a nice, relaxing half day tour.
