The river Mersey

Some of you might not know that the river Mersey starts in Stockport where the rivers goyt and tame merge

Earlier last year the council announced they would be uncovering this section of the bridge in the town centre (it had been concealed for nearly 80 years) close to where the river starts

The work started in January 2014 and was finished recently

Some locals have speculated it cost over £1.5 million and I agree the money could of been spent elsewhere but lots of people were in favour of it

Today is the first time I've seen it finished and it was disappointing as already rubbish (you can just make out a scooter) is in there and it smells pretty yucky too

But some newspaper reports have said fish have been spotted in there and that over time it will be cleaned up better

I wonder how long it will be until someone climbs up and throws themselves in .....
