Archbishop Leighton

The newly renovated tomb of Archbishop Leighton in Horsted Keynes Churchyard.  Leighton was a notable pourer of oil on troubled religious waters (Scottish Presbyterians and Episcopalians) who finally joined his sister in Horsted Keynes in retirement.  He died in 1684.  He gave our village school its motto - In mitiorem partem - on the gentler side.  

The local history society met at the church today for a talk on the Archbishop.
