Caged Bird

A pretty lazy day. I spent a couple of hours this afternoon in the garden, watching some Dunnocks and a couple of newly fledged Robins. There were 2 identical ground feeders on the patio, with the same food in them. One was inside a cage which prevents larger birds like pigeons getting at the food, the other was close by, but outside the cage. Interestingly, the birds fed only from the feeder inside the cage. I wonder if they feel safer in there.
