Things aren’t always what they seem!!
Today saw the Yak Team winging its way Northward to Elvington Airfield, just south of York for the Large Model Association Weekend. The Yak was having a weekend off and we were in the Navion to meet up with the Birdog again for a formation display of ‘real aircraft’ amongst the models!
Good flight to York (1.25 hours from Essex!) in excellent visibility talking to various ATC units enroute. Waddington were active due to the Reds displays later and the guy there was typically busy with both GA & Military traffic. Flying into Elvington gives you good views of the city of York with the Minister standing proud (hoping I may have a decent one on the proper camera!!).
There were models all along the flight line and the Birdog even had to wait before landing to allowing the Vulcan (one of the largest models of the day) to land and clear. The models were of all sizes (and prices ranges!) but the one in the photo is the largest in scale to real size. The guys who run the event are great fun and have a super sense of humour (see extra photo!).
The ‘Dogs Dinner’ formation worked well with Nigel & the Navion leading; then a split for their solo stuff; before joining up again this time with Birdog leading. Again a new twist on commentating for me on this duo. Good positive comments were received from the guys and gals on the ground.
Lovely return flight back down south talking to the controllers in reverse this time. Tried to take some pics of the Humber Bridge on the real camera but haven’t seen how they have come out … there was a fair bit of hazy and cloud in that area so we’ll see!
And so another tick on the airshow complete list for 2015 … now time to get working on the seasons big one … Little Gransden!!
