Yellow Bird's-nest

I was delighted today to find a nice patch of Yellow Bird's-nest, Monotropa hypopitys, in the deep shade of a beech tree. This strange ghostly saprophytic plant, lacking any chlorophyll, has declined or vanished in most of the Chilterns sites where I knew it 20-30 years ago. Let's hope it is making a bit of a comeback.
