May they rest in peace....
The Quintinshill rail disaster occurred on 22 May 1915 near Gretna Green.
The accident involved five trains (including a heavily loaded troop train) and killed a probable 226. The numbers are not exact because the Battalion Roll was on the troop train and destroyed - and many bodies were cremated beyond being identifiable. 246 were injured and this was the worst rail crash ever in the UK - then and since. Those killed were mainly Territorial Soldiers and Royal Scots heading for Gallipoli.
Most of the remains lie here in Rosebank Cemetery in Edinburgh.
