Redshank in Norwegian Snow
This evening our tour leader took us on an hour drive in search of lecking snipes. We left at 9:20 and reached our destination on schedule, but the snipes were not--they were neither to be seen nor heard. A bit before 11:00 we got in our van to move a few hundred meters--and on the way we encountered this Common Redshank in a snowbank by the side of the road. As occasionally happens, the bird seemed mesmerized by our presence, and must have been photographed by everyone in our group. It's my best redshank shot ever, and certainly will remain the most memorable.
More later today--it's 2:10 a.m. and I am putting it up sitting outside the main lodge using its WIFI signal (not accessible in our room).
