Forbidden Fruit

This is one of our newer heirloom apple trees, Fameuse, or Snow Apple. Mr S has allowed it to bear one fruit this year, mostly as a concession to me. Even though I understand that it is better to concentrate on establishing the tree itself in the first few years, I am so eager to sample the fruit. I know I've said this before, but planting a fruit tree is such an act of faith; it's a good five years before they can bear a crop. We have to stick around for awhile--there are several trees here that we haven't tasted yet.
