Retreat into cyberspace
This scene would be impossible a few years ago. I don't mean messing it up by leaving the camera on the wrong setting - that's always been easy :-) I mean the way everyone is engrossed in their smartphones.
There is another side to it though. This is part of the boarding queue for a flight at Edinburgh airport gate 7. The queue formed half an hour before the flight, presumably because Easyjet don't have boarding groups any more. The queue was so long it went past gate 9, and when we joined the end, half the people there thought they were queuing for gate 9!
It took a few minutes to sort out the confusion. Fortunately, we were already on speaking terms with a few people in the queue because of a a similar confusion at check-in. (EasyJet had switched on the wrong signs above the check-in desks)
Do you think we're more tolerant of a rubbish real world because we can retreat into the virtual one?
