Over the bridge

Damp, interesting, frustrating day. Took a trip into London for a lunch meeting of the Fleet Street Motoring Group. My arrival was affected by a train delay. On route to Charing Cross, we were stationary outside Hither Green for ages, but at least we were kept well informed by the driver. He told us that the delay was due to a vehicle hitting a road bridge that we were about to cross, and that we couldn't until it had been inspected.

By coincidence, our FSMG lunch guest was the boss of surface transport at Transport for London. It transpired that he knew all about the bridge problem, except that it happened yesterday. Oh dear, South East Rail telling porkies?
