Fifty years ago my parents married. At their 40th/Ruby party, I suspect all of us expected to be doing something to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary today. It's a strange day to me - I wasn't there 50 years ago and in some respects, it has nothing to do with me, it's not a milestone in my life. But I can recognise the importance of this day to my Mum. I can't imagine how she feels.
We all miss him but his death has left the greatest hole in her heart and her life. I have no photos of their wedding to blip. I don't really have many of my childhood - they are all in albums in the house I was born 'in', to be fought over by my brother and I on a day in the future that I can't think about.
I would have liked to blip my Mum and Dad's wedding though, as a young happy couple with their life together ahead of them. My Mum was (and still is) a beautiful bride, my Dad a handsome (if a little over blessed in the nose department) groom and my nice Grandma wore the most brilliantly awful hat!
So now that I've no doubt made my Mum cry (not my intention but it never is), onto today. When we got in last night, we found that Stella had damaged her tail and it had a manky wound too and bottom. I took her to the vet and he admired the job I'd made of cleaning the wound up and we agreed it looked like a bite puncture on either side. A shot of antibiotics and £13 lighter, we can home again just in time for the Tesco delivery and Bella's departure to meet friends.
The rest of us headed into town - trousers needed for Ally, t-shirts for Red and a cheeky with Clare for me! As part of Falmouth Week, there was "Scary Science" in Events Square so we had a look at that for over an hour, I thought it was excellent.
Home for tea then out again to the Prince of Wales Pier to board 'Princessa' for the RNA firework boat trip (pasty included). We went up the river towards Truro then watched the fireworks from the harbour. The children were little stars (once Smallest overcame his hysteria on going on a boat that might sink) and we have had a splendid night.
