Watching Sourdough in Action
I think there’s a strong possibility that this is one of the most boring photos I’ve ever taken! This is an activity closely related to watching paint dry.
Today I finally woke up feeling my normal healthy self. This combined with a sunny day that dried the grass off so I set to and cut about 2/3 of our grass as a sort of test of my new found health. It seemed to work so I set some sourdough bread going. This is a mixture of the culture from the fridge, flour, and water. After a while the yeasts wake up and start consuming the new nourishment and multiplying. Lots of bubbles of CO2 rise to the surface and this is the subject of my action shot! After the picture was taken I added some more flour and water and it will be left overnight. Tomorrow more flour, some salt, perhaps more water, and then kneading of the bread. If all goes according to plan there will be fresh bread tomorrow, though if the yeast is slow it may be Monday. I’m planning to mix in a lot of blueberries and see what the result is, inspired by our local sourdough bakery, Tiger, who produced a loaf of this sort.
