Plas Llanmihangle Manor

This is a wonderful old 16th century grade1 listed medieval fortified manor house, and is situated near to Cowbridge in the Vale of Glamorgan. It is built of blue lias limestone and is perched on a slight hill looking down to the 13th century St. Michaels Church just below. My beloved had the opportunity of visiting this place for a conducted tour and afternoon tea with the WI and apparently, the place is stunning inside with dressed stone work and decorations fitting for a building of this status. As with all old buildings, there are ghost stories. One of these stories refers to  The White Lady of Llanmihangle.  Her name was  Eleanor Ddu (means Black in Welsh). She was said to  be the heiress to the manor house and  had possessed magical powers. Some of the locals thought she was a witch, others thought she was a lunatic. It seems that she was made to wear an iron ring on one of her wrists and every time she had a frenzy (possibly an epileptic fit), she was tethered to a post until she calmed down.  She drowned in the pond in front of the church and whenever she is seen now, she appears to be arising from the pond. Local folklore says a sighting of her foretells of a death in the village.
