Today we went to a book festival: The Leeds Big Bookend, 'A Rock Festival for Words' - http://www.bigbookend.co.uk/

There were several events throughout the day, but we had booked into one where a well-known local children's author/illustrator, Kate Pankhurst, was running an illustration workshop.

First, she showed everyone examples of her work and where the inspiration for the characters came from. Then there was a live drawing session where she took ideas from the young audience as to what type of monster to draw.

You can see Kate here putting the final touches to a five-eyed, scaly monster rolling around in mud, holding an eye in one hand and throwing a stink bomb with the other. Yes, the kids got a little carried away but Kate managed to create a fantastic picture nonetheless :)
