The Cottage
This cottage is the oldest dwelling remaining in Birkdale, a district of Southport, it actually pre dates the town of Southport, which came into being as a seaside resort only a couple of centuries ago.
The cottage dates back to the 15th century and was the home of ancestors of my wife. Originally it was a farm house of the Cruck type construction. In 1600 it was a Public House operated by "Host" Rimmer.
I assume it belonged to one of the land owning families (The Blundell's) in this part of Lancashire, and let to tenants.
