Prince Albert's Commemorative Dustbin Project

Walking down Prince Albert’s Main Street is no exception, you may just notice one or two unusual dustbins with pictures painted on them.
The story behind these arty dustbins tell a tale of a community who got in on the act to celebrate the town's 250th anniversary.
John Mckenna came up with the brilliant idea to transform old oil drums into handsome art displays, and before you could say Picasso, some of the town’s local artists and children grabbed their paintbrushes and started with this great makeover project.
While some of the dustbin paintings whisper stories of Prince Albert’s history, other showcase characteristics/aspects of the town and region.
The completed collection, known as the Commemorative Dustbin Project, was officially launched on the 3rd of December 2011 in front of the town’s Art Gallery. Since then these trashcans not only help to keep this town spotless, but also get admired by many visitors.
Be sure to stroll through the streets to admire this outdoor art exhibition - it's free, can be viewed around the clock, and is an easy way to learn more about Prince Albert.
