Start of the trek

Tony oxygen 97
pulse 78 - it was 97 because I'd temporarily lost the passports.
Clare 98/68
Back packs now very heavy with 3 litres of water in each. Very excited to see a monkey on the way to the toilet - then watched several put on a show while others were stealing food from the spectators.
Steps 18,053
Steeper and harder than we'd imagined for first day 1,800 to 3,000 metres above sea level.
We liked the 'pole' 'pole' pace which is very slow.
packed lunch Tony - cold burger and fried egg, chicken, cake and bananas.
Clare - veg toastie with chips (cold), boiled egg, cake and bananas.
Camp was an amazing temporary village of tents with long drop toilets.
Just before we got to the camp we changed from rain forest to drier heath/moorland.
Hot water awaited us in our mess tent. Table laid with tablecloth - superb meal - pumpkin soup, followed by battered fish, fried potatoes, veg in sauce and two hug avocados stuffed with diced veg.
Not a particularly good night both started off fully clothed but sleeping bags very efficient.
Pee bottles have been christened.
