Peacock Butterfly
It's been a rather stressful and action packed week since returning from Turkey. Our dear young cat Billy was missing on arrival - our housesitter, J, had seen him only twelve hours before our return but he went walkabout and was away for three days. He has never been away that long before and we began to lose hope of his return (we have had two cats over the years that vanished, never to return). I spent many an hour squawking my noisy high pitched cat call, which echoes off the walls and the woodland edge and can be heard for miles around. It usually calls the cats home, but not this time. Phone calls to rescue centres, a missing cat poster and chats with neighbours....but no sign. On the fourth day, I went out and called for him again and five minutes later, in he strolled as if nothing had happened.
Oh, then HL lost her wallet with lots of money in it which she had taken out in case needed for the holidays. She was sure she hadn't lost it but it didn't show up anywhere. Everyone searched high and low for twenty four hours. Just when we gave up looking, it turned up in a very unlikely place - the garage.
Then all the soft fruit ripened at more or less the same time and furious jam making and preserving of cherries in brandy ensued. But the cherry jam which I made had insufficient pectin to set and I had to do it all over again.
So as you can see it has been an eventful time. In the next life, I think I will come back as a Peacock Butterfly. Less hassle.....
