Red-veined Darter Dragonfly
On this warm sunny day we all went for a walk over Woodbury Common and Bystock Ponds. We spent some time walking around the ponds at Bystock where we spotted this Red-veined Darter (Sympetrum striolatum) dragonfly. The Bystock Ponds have recently been put up for sale by South West Water but fortunately the Devonshire Wildlife Trust has put in a bid for it. They say on their website that 'Thanks to generous donations from DWT members, local residents and community fundraising by our Bystock volunteer group we have reached the target of our public appeal to help purchase the reserve. We are now awaiting the outcome of a funding bid to an organisation that gives grants to environmental charities - if we are successful in this bid we will have raised all the funds required to purchase the reserve.' Lets hope this all proceeds successfully.
After all these exertions we then treated ourselves to a cream tea.
