Gelati
The last day has arrived. Luckily an afternoon flight so we were able to do a morning dog walk around the Mindelburg castle overlooking Mindelheim.
I was delighted to see the sign saying that the restaurant in the castle had their "Rest Day" and was closed on Tuesdays, so we strode up to the entrance to grab lunch before doing the final packing and dash to the airport. Greeted by a locked door and a sign they were on holiday! Can't believe they close in the middle of school summer holidays but this does happen fairly often in Germany.
So we quickly drove down into the town by which time it was past normal German lunchtime and the butchers & bakers shelves were empty of sandwiches and snacks. No supermarkets in the town centre and the choice of restaurants and cafes was limited. Finally found one which offered various Panini breads. Sat ourselves down, translated the menu and when the waitress arrived were told they don't do the Panini on Mondays!!
Gave up and went to the nearby Gelateria where Charlotte had another Azzurro blue scoop added to her Barbie pink one.
Then dash home, collect up all the bits and pieces and dash to the airport. Actually got there much too early a full 20 minutes before the gate closed. Legoland could learn a thing or two about queuing from Memmingen airport. I was able to drive up to the car park barrier, pull a ticket, find a space, unload people and bags, walk to the terminal, watch them get through the check-in/security search and wave goodbye, then walk to the car, drive to the exit and get out free of charge as I had been in the car park for less than 10 minutes! I suspect Kirkwall Airport on the Orkney Islands couldn't match that.
Back home to a very quiet deserted lonely house. Several hours the call came through from Ireland that they were safely home with all the pets and animals well. I know it's nice to be home but I wish they were still here.
