Malting floor tile

Barley was spread out across a floor made at shoulder height of these tiles. When the seeds had sprouted enough for the malt to form, a fire was lit on the floor below The heat came up through the little holes (holes so small that the barley grains couldn't fall through) and germination and malt production was stopped. Hence malt kiln
