Flag Iris
The buds are just beginning to break on the Yellow Flags.
When we moved here thirty years ago there was nothing in the garden but two small trees and two buried TVs. The area on the north side of the house was dark and damp, the lawn was full of moss so we decided to work with nature rather than try to beat it.
We dug a wide hole, lined it with plastic, laid a pipe to the surface to take a hose-pipe and put the soil back in. We then planted things which thrived in damp environments like these wild flag irises, astilbes, frittilaria, candelabra primula and hostas.
The irises are taking over, I suppose that's due to their hardy nature as a wild flower.
