Taste & Swap
My brew group in Oxford holds an annual event where we have a bit of a talk about brewing and also bring our beers along and taste each others.
Mattias Sjoberg (sat on the far left), a group member and also owner of the Compass Brewery came along and told us about setting up his brewery business, his beers and what he is trying to achieve with his recipes.
This year we also had a kit brew challenge. All of us pretty much make beer the same way that a brewery would, from malted barley, hops, yeast and water. We thought we would have a try and brewing a beer kit, as you can buy in places like Wilkinsons, and see what we could do to improve them. Well, we improved them, but I think we all agreed that you can make better beer the 'pro' way.
As you can imagine, in a university town like Oxford, we are quite blessed with the number of people in the group that are very skilled in chemistry, engineering, food tech, biology etc. It can get a bit nerdy at times, but we also don't take ourselves seriously. It is only beer at the end of the day!
There are a number of other pictures from the day here. I was struggling to decide which one to go for, and decided on a group shot, rather than an individual portrait.
