Use of antibiotics less than national average
GPs in East Leicestershire and Rutland CCG have one of the lowest prescribing level for antibiotics in the East Midlands
East Leicestershire and Rutland Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) GPs prescribe fewer antibiotics per person than the average nationally
GP says this is thanks to patients accepting their advice when antibiotics are not appropriate treatment
Increased use of antibiotics reduces the chances of them working when they are really needed as the bacteria become resistant to the drugs
Dr Richard Hurwood, Governing Body member and East Leicestershire and Rutland Clinical Commissioning Group’s antibiotics awareness champion, said: “We are really pleased that the figures show our GPs are prescribing fewer antibiotics to their patients than the national average. I firmly believe this is down to the patients listening to their GP’s advice and accepting that antibiotics are not the right treatment for a range of common minor illnesses."
