Loser!

Today I went to see the re-enactment of the Battle of Waterloo. It's the first time I have been - despite having lived in Belgium for 12 years (shame on me!). Napoleon was gracious in defeat but then he knew what he had coming to him! Getting to the re-enactment site was more of a battle than I expected. In true Belgian style there were no signs to show us where to go. I followed the human snake I saw in the distance and was feeling pretty confident until we were stopped by one of the organisers not far from the battlefield and were redirected for our own safety!!! We had been following the soldiers - whoops!

We tramped through muddy fields, following the sound of canon fire until we found ourselves in the right place. It was definitely worth all the effort. What an amazing sight! I managed to get a good spot right up front which was great as Napoleon came over to say hello and I got some nice pics. We all knew how it was going to end (a bit like watching Titanic in that respect!) so I headed off before the rest of the crowd. The only problem was I had no idea how to get back! Fortunately a very kind woman called Maggie was also leaving and offered me a lift to my car. I know my way around now - hope I remember next year!
