BRASS BAND WINNERS...
.... another really full on but VERY entertaining and enjoyable day!
Sadly Nanna did not last to meet an old friend (Ron) from her home town Gunnedah in Central West NSW. First meeting 70 years back, they parted going their separate lives, to be back in touch again via a family contact about 12 months back. Ron has been active in the Brass band movement playing and managing in later years, and was coming to Penrith this weekend with the Gunnedah Brass Junior Band competing in the 2015 NSW State Open & Junior Championships. They although being juniors compete in the Open class.
We still caught up and met Ron and his friend Stephen, and spent the day supporting the band from Gunnedah competing. As you can see they are mostly "juniors" in fact about 6 in the group are still in primary school.
Age or experience did not hold them back at all, competing and winning the OPEN B Grade Brass section against adult competition.
If you are into brass bands, have a listen to the piece they chose to use as their "Own Choice".... Spectrum by Gilbert Vinter and the You Tube is of a UK group playing the same piece.
Could not take pics in the theatre, but have added an extra of them on the bus ready to go home tonight to Gunnedah, about a five hour drive.
Sure they are feeling VERY proud of their days adventure.
Felt humbled by such young talent.
Enjoy, and have a look in LARGE
