Cheesy
Out for a romantic slightly pre-anniversary dinner with Mme Tepeka at our favourite restaurant in Belfast (actually, possibly our favourite restaurant anywhere - this becomes a topic of debate every time we're here).
We don't come here often because it's eye-wateringly expensive and we always end up saying things like "We could have had a weekend away for the price of this" or "We could have bought a holiday home in Co Donegal for the same money", etc, etc.
Anyway, this is the sixth of the eight courses. And, despite initial appearances, it was billed as the cheese course. The big carrot-shaped thing sitting on the cheese is actually carrot cake: warm, very odd, and surprisingly brilliant with the cheese. The beetroot-like things are more carrot.
This was my favourite course of the evening, and Mme Tepeka's least favourite. It's a miracle we've been married 16 years...
Tomorrow, the kids will be providing dinner for us, so you'll probably get a third-in-a-row food blip. Each year we force gently encourage them to cook us our anniversary dinner, and they've been debating the menu for the past week or so. There've been murmurings about the need for a blowtorch for one of the dishes. Wish us luck...
