St Benedict's Hand

After Byland Abbey yesterday we went to another nearby abbey this afternoon: Ampleforth. It's a lovely place for a nice quiet walk with the dog, although to be honest its primary and secondary draws are really its afternoon tea and the monk-made cider you can buy in the abbey gift shop...

There's an impressive statue of St Benedict outside the main building. This is his hand holding a crucifix with some of the abbey buildings in the background.
