Best book in ages

I haven't enjoyed reading a book so much for a long time. I'm half way through this novel by John B. Keane which tells the story of a young man who emigrates from Ireland in 1952 and finds work in the building industry in London.

For anyone who has grown up in an Irish family in London or has worked in the building industry, this story rings so many bells. The book was published over twenty years ago and I can't believe I haven't read it before. I think I'll be really sad when I reach the end of it.
