Au Revoir
We've had a roller-coaster of a week with two sets of exam results in the last 10 days (good and not so good) and the news that Tom has got a place at Leander Rowing Club in Henley in their young athlete development squad. This means he'll be going to Sixth Form in Henley and I have to work out how to get him there and back somehow.....
But first a goodbye to City of Oxford Rowing Club where he has had a formative three years and been turned into a rather good young athlete by a bunch of extremely generous and talented volunteers. It will be a big step up to Leander - notable members include Steve Redgrave, Matthew Pinsent and James Cracknell. He's going to be a tiny fish in a very big sea populated by some real heavyweights.
For his last outing, the J16 boys quad got a new PB in Heads of 6.19 knocking 5 seconds off their previous one (and as they know 5s can be the different between going home with gold, or going home empty handed). It was a sad goodbye for me too or rather an au revoir as long ago I had agreed to organise the Junior Dinner for 100 people on 5th September....
He starts at Leander at 7.30 am tomorrow for his first session. It's going to be a very early start.
