Restaurant??!
Very lovely relaxed start to the day. Sophie doesn't serve breakfast before 9:30 - hardship!! ;) So at 9:30 we woke up and meandered down to be greeted by a table FULL of little plates, bowls and pots, full of strawberries, tiny bananas, raspberries, grapes, yoghurts, breads, cheeses, jam, honey, chocolate spread, caramel and coffee macaroons!
We didn't set off from there till 12 and headed to the beach again to check out a little cafe that Sophie and her other guests raved about. I was sorry we didn't have time to savour their cuisine.
Very long drive after that. (During which time I realised how small Britain is!!) Pretty much drove constantly, apart from a short lunch stop, and arrived at our next B&B at 8pm!
Very different! She didn't really speak English and got her teenage son to act as go between. They booked us into this restaurant for dinner! Yes, there really is a restaurant down this lane, through the derelict building and in the ordinary looking farm house.
We were waited on by a little old lady who spoke no English and very carefully read the whole menu to us (with the text facing us so we could see) in French! Hmmm!
Cathie managed to pick out the main bits so we knew roughly what we were ordering. One of the starters was egg something but we didn't know what. So I got out my phone to use the translate app I had down loaded for just such occasions. It read "eggs of the donkey"!!!! The tears streamed down our faces as we tried not to disturbed the quiet atmosphere for the other diners. Well we had to order that to see what it was.
Turned out to be poached eggs on toast with a dark, alcoholic sauce!
After that we tried to convince the owners of this wee farmhouse restaurant that we were fine to walk back to the B&B (it was dark). We started on our way and it was a beautiful clear night (no light pollution) the stars were beautiful. But before long a car pulled up...it was the guy (we hadn't met yet) from the B&B who spoke English, he had come to rescue us! So no chance of walking off our delicious meal!
It was all just lovely! :)
