Farmers' Market Gig
Although every little town around us has at least one, we still like the Sebastopol Farmers' Market best. It is one of the first in the area, has a nice park-like setting and lots of entertainment for young and old alike.
These fellows seemed a rather loosely knit group, from the sound of it, each doing his own thing to contribute to the sort of Latin theme. But they were having a great time.
So were the kids. There were little kids drawing with chalk on the sidewalk, climbing on the "Peace" statue , running around in the grass and ignoring the food both raw and cooked which surrounded them on all sides.
We, on the other hand were unable to resist the heirloom tomatoes, red, green and yellow peppers, tiny new potatoes…and a tiny sun browned man with twinkling eyes who made sure we knew how to cook them properly. "All my potatoes come out of the ground…never from a box".
The young couple with who sold shell beans and tomatoes weren't there. She was very pregnant in the spring, he carried on without her for a few weeks after the baby was born, but he may have decided he had his hands full on the home front.
The Bloomfield Bees guy wasn't there either. We read recently in the paper that there was a fire in the place where he kept his hives. It was just down the road from the house we used to rent in Sebastopol and he had a little "honors" counter there. If the Christmas lights were on, he had jars of honey out along with a box where money for it could be left. I hope he wasn't too damaged by the fire.
The fresh pastries from Angelique's stall and the coffee from the hole-in-the-wall Morning Joes weren't bad either….
