The Fever Tree at The St. Walrick Chapel...
The St. Walrick Chapel was founded in the 15th century in Overasselt.
Possibly they have served since that time as the location for pilgrimages in honor of the Sint Walrick. This saint was regarded as the patron of the sick, fever sufferers in particular. Since the 17th century, the chapel has fallen into ruin. In the second half of the 19th century St. Walrick was forgotten and associated pilgrims the chapel with the patriotic St. Willibrord. Except to pray and sacrifice in the offering plate in the chapel ruin, the pilgrims went to this holy place to "tying off" the fever. Since the 90s, hanging pieces of cloth to the fever tree is increased significantly again.... So did we today, especially for my sisters and my dad... we hung 10 pieces of cloth in the tree...
On the photo is my love is balancing on the ruin wall to hang up the pieces of cloth... On the extras you can see the tree and ruin in color...
Thanks to TheAphid for hosting the MonoMonday challenge for the month of August.
