Every cloud has a golden lining

Follow up from yesterday's regatta.

The wind changed to the SE which is our gustiest and most changeable direction. Sailing becomes a lottery. Emma couldn't sail, but S gamely said she would have a go, despite being in a dinghy for the first time the day before.

To use a Scottish word - we were gubbed. We retired from the second race when something broke and came last twice.

So, what's the golden lining? We capsized, but we did my first ever 'dry' capsize! Bonus - we've really been encouraging the juniors to try racing. I heard one of them race up to his mum later to tell her, "We beat Martin!" and they all want to buy a boat like mine, because on Saturday we were 'hoofing it'.

The extras are the prizewinners and the Japanese maple in the garden that sums up the weather.

Just realised I taught three of the prizewinners to sail!
