When in Rome . . .
Do as the Romans do. At least that's how the saying goes, and really means you should endeavour to adopt the style and the manners of wherever you are visiting.
Except that this time we were a mere 1,200 miles from the Italian capital and much closer to home.
The image of the Coliseum is a wall sized photograph giving allure to Caffe di Arrosto, a coffee shop in the centre of the South Coast town of Totton.
And on a day like today when it rained nearly all day, the Italian city, although partly cloudy, but with little prospect of rain did hold some attractions and I think I would have preferred to have taken my coffee at somewhere like Cafe Cafe, the bistro very close to the real Coliseum while savouring the history of the 2,000 year old Roman icon.
Back in Totton, the wall sized photograph at least gave me a flavour in the mind's eye of one of the cities I adore while sipping my Italian coffee.
Well, I can dream, can't I?
