Spylaw House
Built in 1773 by James Gillespie. He amassed a substantial amount of money from his snuff factory. When he died in 1797 he left a vast fortune for the endowment of a hospital for aged men and women, and a free school for poor boys.
In 1940 the house became a youth hostel and the Regional Headquarters of the Boy Scouts Association. It has now been converted into private flats.
Look on the location map to see the setting it is in (nice place to live).
