Love Flower

Agapanthus is derived from Greek and means love flower, and I think in this shot this native South African plant's beauty shines through. It has funnel-shaped flowers, in hues of blue to purple, shading to white at the end of very long stems.

It has been an uphill struggle for this particular plant in its third year on the patio. It was the dearest plant I have ever bought from a nursery as it was in full bloom in July, but it had become completely pot bound and its fleshy roots seemed glued to the plastic and its foliage was very bedraggled. It had be cut out of its 12 inch pot and put it into the largest container I had. It looked as if nothing was going to happen this year. Then bingo - in the middle of the month it got a grip and some flower stems began to appear! The extra picture shows some of the tightly closed flowers and a bee at an open flower which they adore.
